We are sometimes asked about sources of information on maintaining church buildings.We have listed sites that people have found useful. Do let us know if you have come across others. We have also included some helpful sites about aspects of funding.

Every C of E diocese has an advisory committee (DAC) which is in effect the Church’s planning authority. The DACs covering Kent are Canterbury and Rochester and their websites are a useful source of information on Kent churches:- particularly the section on Church Buildings and Churchyards

Grants may be available in Rochester diocese’s missional property fund via this website:–2-bQCFePHtAodlEIAgg  (Ecclesiastical Insurance) particularly the section of Buildings especially their Maintenance Co-operatives page.  They publish the helpful ‘Good Maintenance Guide’ which is aimed at churches.  Historic England (formerly English Heritage) Heritage Lottery Fund (grants) Government web sites links (gift aid, accounting, annual returns to Charity Commission, investment, tax etc.)  (C of E web site) (Cuxton and Halling, Kent parishes) (Romney Marsh Churches website has recently been re-developed and re-launched) (St Mary, Burham) as a grant giver for organ grants Reminder – the closing date for the last round of applications for grants for organs was 1 October 2018. The Cottam Will Trust gives grants for new works of art in medieval churches and also purchasing and salvaged items.  Apply through the Friends of Friendless Churches.
