Our final set of church visits for 2019 was to churches close to Watling Street led by Amicia Oldfield – many thanks for organising and leading the day.

At Doddington, with an introduction from Amicia we were given a fascinating talk by Paul Britton who dated architectural items and gave us a tour round the church by just standing in front of us and pointing.

- Timber clad church tower
The original church tower was replaced by this timber clad one – we were told that this might have been unnecessary had the pointing in the flint stone tower been better looked after but that was a long time ago!
Moving on to Ospringe – and what a surprise. Many of us commented on having seen the large tower from the road but secluded beyond the trees was a rather large church building. We were greeted by the benefice minister.
Once more a very educational time with finer detail and history given to us by Paul and Rev’d Simon.
